When you’re focused on university work or what job to get after you graduate, it’s hard to find the time to plan your summer travel dreams. So, to help you out we’ve come up with a simple guide for working abroad in the USA for the summer. We’ll explain what you can expect from our all-American programmes in the States – Summer Camp USA and Work America - and how they will help your future career. Whichever one you pick, we’ll help you every step of the way.

Step 1: Choosing your programme

At BUNAC we want to make your working summer in America as easy and as suited to you as we can. Choose from our two iconic programmes Summer Camp USA and Work America and start your stateside adventure. 

Summer Camp USA

If you fancy a summer waking up every day in an incredible location to teach something you’re passionate about to a group of kids, then look no further. No matter what job you’re doing at Camp, trust us, your Summer Camp USA adventure will be unforgettable.   

What skills will you gain?

Not only will you improve your activity skills and teaching abilities, there are also plenty more invaluable benefits to working at Camp that you can bring forward into any professional career. Your leadership role will mean strengthened communication skills, problem solving, self-confidence and time management. These are just a few of the transferable skills you’ll be working on every single day.

Work America

This is BUNAC’s longest running programme, and you can choose between Work America Ultimate or Essentials. On both we’ll help you get your J-1 visa and assist you in getting a job! With Ultimate we’ll organise your return flight to the USA, get you a prearranged job and cover your accommodation costs for the summer! Opportunities are in awesome destinations like New York, Massachusetts and North Carolina.

What skills will you gain?

You’ll be taken out of your comfort zone by being immersed in a new culture while working in a diverse environment. You’ll be meeting and working with new people from a range of backgrounds throughout, so communications skills will be improved. You will of course make lifelong friends!

Step 2: Find your perfect job

Summer Camp USA roles 

Activities Instructor – if you have experience in a sport or activity, then there have the perfect job for you at Camp? There’s a whole range of positions, from water sports, lifeguards, horse riding, theatre arts, football, tennis and so many more!

General Camp Counsellor – if you are more of an all-rounder with lots of childcare experience, then Camps want YOU. As a General Camp Counsellor you’ll be in charge of a group of campers, from wake up calls to activity escorting, you’ll be their role model and support throughout Camp.

Work America roles

We have so many amazing roles available on our Work America programme. From restaurant servers, lifeguards, bartenders, housekeepers and front desk agents you’ll definitely find the role for you. With our Ultimate programme, you’ll have a prearranged job in a fancy American country club, as well as having your flights and accommodation sorted by us beforehand!

Step 3: Start planning your road trip 

With your visa you’ll get 30 wonderful days at the end of summer to travel America. This is the perfect time to go on the ultimate American road trip with all the new mates you will have made.
