Prepare yourself for the ultimate South American experience that is sure to take you off the beaten track. Starting your adventure in Quito, Ecuador’s historic capital for two nights, you’ll get chance to soak up all the culture on offer before setting off to more extreme environments!
After your vibrant introduction, you’ll head off to your first volunteering destination. With the Andes as a dramatic back drop, nestled between volcanos, flowing streams and luscious countryside, you’ll find Otavalo, your home for the next 2 weeks.
With Ecuador’s varied landscape, you now get to explore its more tropical regions. Having headed west of the mountains, its time to embark on project number two!
Down in the lowland jungle, deep in the equatorial tropics is home to the countries last remaining indigenous Tsachila tribes. Be prepared to immerse yourself into ancient tribal culture and rituals, play football with the kids, and trek through the dense jungle. With a short walk to the local town, you can even catch a bus to the local beaches and watch the sunset over the sandy shores of the Pacific.
Hard work pays off! It’s time to enjoy all the spoils Ecuador has to offer on this road trip to remember. Stopping off at all the famous beach resorts along the Pacific coast, you’ll get chance to experience all the nightlife on offer with your new friends.
On top of all the fun and games, stop off in Puerto Lopez the ideal location for some whale watching before heading to Montanita to try your hand at some surfing! This hippy scene hosts the best live music and parties outside of Quito, so you’re guaranteed a good time!
For summer departures in July there are slight changes to the 6 week programme itinerary. With two destination options in weeks 3-5 the power is in your hands to decide where your adventure takes you!
This island needs no introduction; set 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador and home to a vast variety of rare species, you are bound to have some memorable encounters! Flying into Santa Cristobal, Galapagos’ most eastern island, you'll begin your conservation project. Based at Hacienda Tranquila you’ll take a hands on role in restoring the surrounding environment.
Maintaining irrigation systems
Leading horse riding sessions and teach educational classes to children
Aid in the development of eco friendly, high yielding farming methods for the farmers in the area
Bring new vegetation to the area, ready for the introduction of the Giant Tortoise to Hacienda Tranquila.
