For those of you counting the pennies, the prospect of being a tourist in London can be a daunting one. But fear not- London life doesn't always have to be pricey! Here are a few ideas of things you can do in London that won't break the bank.
This first destination is a real undiscovered gem! If you fancy a dazzling view of St. Paul’s Cathedral as well as the chance to see London Bridge from up high then this one is for you. Head just across the road from St. Paul’s Cathedral where you will find a shopping centre called One New Change. Enter the shopping centre and take the elevator to the top floor. Here you’ll find Madison Bar, a bar/tapas restaurant. Bring your cameras and experience the view with no obligation to enter either the restaurant or the bar.
If art is something you have a passion for, then a must stop destination is the V&A Museum. Head to South Kensington on the tube and directions are clear from here. This is the world’s largest museum of decorative arts and will keep you busy for hours! Even better, the museum is in prime location neighbouring the Natural History Museum as well as the Science Museum- a perfect free day out!
Ya Gotta Eat, Right?
Exploring local cuisine is a great way to enjoy a city. Luckily if you know where to go though, this doesn’t have to be too pricey! Camden Market is a great tourist attraction that hosts a food market with stalls of every possible type of food you can imagine. For £2-3 pounds you can have your rumbling stomachs filled with delicious food from around the world. Some stalls will even give away free samples; pair this with a stroll around the market and you’ve got a lovely afternoon of entertainment and snacks.
So you want to see a show?
Seeing a London west-end show is something you certainly pay the price for... or is it? Located in Leicester Square's Clocktower Building with a second outlet at Brent Cross is the non-profit Leicester Square ticket booth, aka tkts. Head here to find yourself some very cheap tickets allowing you to see the top shows in London at a much more affordable price!
A great place to check out on a Sunday is East London, the new ‘in’ place to be. If you take the tube to Bethnal Green or Shoreditch you'll find yourself in the bustling market towns. Located on Columbia Road is the Columbia Road Flower Market- A little English cobbled street lined with indie shops that has everything from plant pots to pancakes and practically every type of flower under the sun. There's a real bustling atmosphere in this area and if you head down towards the end of the day, you can bag yourself some bargain flowers! Stoll a little further and just down the road is Brick Lane Market where you'll find lots of thrift shops and pop up stalls.
Experiencing London doesn't have to be expensive, just plan your time well and make the most of what London has to offer!
