6 WEEK PROJECT

TAWAU NATIONAL PARK - PLANTATION VILLAGE: WEEKS 1 - 2

It’s time to make the journey north into the state of Sabah where the remainder of your adventure will be. Your home for the next 2 weeks is at a plantation village in the Tawau National Park.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Work with teachers and NGO’s to:

  • Help improve the schools infrastructure
  • Help cook the school meal
  • Look after the pre-school kids with games, sports and teach basic English and art.

SEPILOK ORANGUTAN CENTRE: 3 DAYS

After your 2 week project reaches its end, you’ll get to enjoy 3 days in the world famous orangu-tan centre, giving you plenty of rest and relaxation and the chance to spend some quality time with these amazing animals

NULUHON VILLAGE:WEEK 3

In week 3 you’ll head to Nuluhon village, surrounded by some of the best rainforest in the state. At present this village is under threat from oil plantations, which will have an adverse effect on the natural environment and wildlife. To help maintain their way of life you will assist in introducing sustainable tourism to the area.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Show Nuluhon’s community that income can be made from tourism
  • Construction/refurbishments of the community pre-school
  • Teach English, reading, drawing, sport, music and art in the community pre-school and primary school
  • Help with tree planting in the area. 

RAINFOREST CAMP TREK: WEEK 4

Set up camp in the Lupa Masa jungle at the foot of Borneo’s famous Mount Kinabalu. Explore the hot springs on offer for 2 nights whilst brushing up on your survival skills prior to your 5 –day jungle trek! With Borneo buzzing with wildlife you’ll be in with a great chance of seeing plenty of animals, so get your camera ready!

 

MANTANANI ISLAND: 5-6

A new week a new project! Home for your last week is the picturesque paradise of the Mantanani Island. With crystal clear waters, crisp white sands, this paradise is also home to nesting turtles. Whilst enjoying the sun, you will be helping the local village pioneer a new community and environmental tourism program.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Helping educate local communities on the negative impacts of coral destruction and sustainable fishing methods
  • Help with beach clean - ups and recycling projects
  • Assist with water management, greenhouse and home - stay projects as alternative methods of income and sustainability for the area
  • Assist in the local schools teaching as well as helping build new gardens and composting sites.
