Marine Internships Seychelles is now closed for 2016.
On the programme, divide your time between marine conservation and a 12-week unpaid placement with a local dive school school, allowing you to complete your PADI Divemaster course. During your first 12 weeks you`ll live and work with our local partners to undertake extensive marine research whilst improving your dive skills. The skills and knowledge you develop will be put into practice whilst you work as part of a team to compile crucial research on coral reef and fish species.
Each week you will have a one to one with your mentor, allowing you to measure your progress in preparation for your work placement. Your work placements will be based at a local dive centre where you will gain professional qualifications, practice leadership scenarios and help dive centre staff with the day-to-day running of the dive shop. At the end of your placement you may be offered paid or unpaid work.
Along with other interns compile crucial research on coral reef and fish species.
Spend your first 12 weeks undergoing an extensive training programme, developing your dive skills and advancing your knowledge of the marine ecosystem- interns can expect to carry out 1-2 dives/ snorkels per day.
Get involved in other area initiatives including marine debris surveys and removal & environmental education sessions in the local community.
As a volunteer you will contribute to the crucial research of the marine ecosystem in the Seychelles. Our local partner, working with several local non-governmental organisations & the Seychelles Ministry of Environment are working on the following priorities;
Coral reef monitoring and recovery research
Invertebrate fisheries surveys
Education of local partners
Sea turtle nesting surveys
All the data collected is used by the Seychelles government when creating new management policies.
