Instructor training

Your training is split into 3 sections; developing your ski or boarding skills, instructor skills and exam preparation.

Developing your skills

Your first training days will be focused around developing your personal ski or board skills both on and off piste. You’ll learn about stance and balance and get an introduction to the core competencies. Alongside practical lessons you will have indoor sessions focusing on leadership and forces in skiing and snowboarding. At the end of this training block you will have an understanding of the fundamental skills and the level one course standards – ready for the next stage. On days off there is plenty of time to practice your theory or work in a study group on indoor course material.

Instructor Skills

This training block kick starts with more personal ski or board development. Your trainer will step up the tempo and get you into some more challenging terrain and hopefully to some local powder stashes. This week you’ll learn about rotation, edging and cover core competencies in more detail advancing your ski knowledge. The classroom work in this training block will include student centered teaching and developing the guest experience.  During your days off there’ll be an opportunity to relax and consolidate what you’ve learnt on the snow as well as hanging out with new friends at social events.

Exam Preparation

Your third training block is all focused at getting you ready for the level one exam. You’ll spend time developing your level one demonstrations, teaching progressions and practicing group teaching scenarios. By now you should have developed your own personal ski skills but you will continue to practice these in your final training block. Your indoor sessions will include bio-mechanics and children in snow sports. On your days off you can shadow ski or board school lessons as well as revising with the pre exam E-Prep module.

Exam and Party!

It’s exam time! The course is fun, informative and a chance to develop your teaching and personal skiing or riding skills even further. The course conductors will be there to assess you but also help you reach the level 1 standard – with group and individual feedback throughout. At the end of your training you’ll hopefully be walking away with a pass result and its time to party with new friends to celebrate your success.

Start working as a ski instructor! (December – April)

It’s time to put your newly acquired qualification into action as you start working as a ski instructor. Most new instructors teach in the children`s ski school. The training you will have received gives you the basic techniques to address different issues and the more experience you gain the better you will get at spotting problems.  If you decide to go for the Ultimate plus programme come January you will continue your training to reach your Level 2 qualification.

Ultimate Plus Only (January – March)

Your ultimate plus training will start in January and will include Level 2 coaching, park & freeride course, avalanche safety course, first aid course, on snow video analysis and indoor technical & theory sessions. Ultimate Plus is designed to give you all the necessary technical training and assistance to put you in the best position to pass the Level Two Ski or Snowboard Instructor Exam. There is no set date for the level two exam, you can sit this when you feel ready.
