National Parks you have to visit in the USA!

Head to a national park after Work America or Summer Camp

Did you know on our Work America and Summer Camp USA programmes you get 30 days at the end of your J-1 visa to travel the USA. National Parks are a must see when in the USA, Rob shares his highlights with us.

The US has over 50 incredible National Parks and is a perfect place to unwind after spending your summer working in America, with breath-taking views, and also some quite breath-taking hikes (get it?), which are certainly going to be a fantastic trip whether you are a lover of the outdoors or not!

The range of National parks is vast, with National Parks in the glaziers of Alaska, the geothermal lands of Yellowstone, the world’s largest tree in Sequoia, the granite cliffs and waterfalls of Yosemite, the subtropical wilderness of the everglades, and of course, the Grand Canyon!

Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park, Utah

Arches National Park, Utah, is home to hundreds of natural bridges, including the world’s biggest natural bridge – Rainbow Bridge National Monument.

Arches National Park is neighbours with the Canyonlands National Park, where anyone who has seen the film 127 hours, Aron Ralston managed to find himself trapped in a ravine, before finally freeing himself by cutting through his forearm using his penknife.

The Grand Canyon, Arizona

The Grand Canyon is arguably the most well-known of all National Parks in the United States.  Day trips or overnight camping trips are easily accessible, on both the Northern and Southern rim, and for anyone looking to see the Canyon in style, helicopter trips are available and having done one, I would recommend to anyone!

Yosemite National Park, California

My personal favourite of all National Parks in the US, is Yosemite National Park.  Yosemite is home to the famous ‘Half Dome’ rock face, and also ‘El Capitan’.  Half Dome is hiked up by hundreds of keen hikers each day, and actually requires a lot of planning as you need to get a permit to climb.

If you are not a serious climber, not to worry, Yosemite has hikes for all.  The Nevada Falls path, leads to a breath-taking water fall, and also is overlooked by Half Dome, meaning you have an incredible view all along the hike.
