Why your help is needed
UNICEF estimates that there are well over 1,000 orphans in Ghana, many of whom have
been orphaned by AIDS.
The overwhelming number of orphaned Ghanaian children is humbling for anybody, and
particularly for those from developed countries that thankfully do not suffer from
the same high mortality rates as many in the developing world.
Volunteers on this project can make a real difference to the lives of young children
who have had a difficult start to life and are needed to be there to listen to them,
help them with homework, play with them and offer a helping hand to get them through
the day.
Responsibilities are varied, ranging from feeding and clothing children to playing
games and keeping the orphanage tidy, so volunteers should be willing to get involved
wherever help is needed.
How long can I go for? 2-6 months, with a five-day arrival orientation.
Working hours: 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week
Eligibility: British/Irish, 18+
Experience of teaching or working with children would be an advantage.
