Why your help is needed
Just as in many countries in the developing world, Ghanaian teachers often work
in extremely basic and overcrowded environments, resulting in local children from
underprivileged communities receiving limited attention in the classroom on a daily
basis.
Volunteers on this project help schools to provide their pupils with a high quality
education. While they primarily teach English, either taking their own classes or
by helping a local English teacher, there are also opportunities to help children’s
educational development in other subjects and activities. For example, volunteers
might get involved in organising extra curricular activities from arts and crafts,
dance or music, to sports days, football matches or games.
Helping underprivileged children learn and develop is an extremely rewarding experience,
particularly as volunteers often have freedom to introduce their own ideas and lesson
plans. The project gives volunteers who are serious about making a real difference
in the developing world the chance to do so at a local level, working directly with
those who genuinely need help and support now.
Projects take place in crèches, primary schools, secondary schools and colleges.
