Why your help is needed
Increasing tourism and a strong commercial relationship with the West means that
the ability to speak English is highly valued in China, and this had lead to a significant
demand for English teachers.
Many parents encourage their children to learn English and local governments often
invest considerable amounts of money and time into initiatives that develop children’s
language skills.
Participants on Teach and Travel China complete a one month intensive TEFL course
followed by a five month teaching English placement, giving them the chance to earn
money teaching English while experiencing this amazing country.
The programme is divided into two parts:
Part 1: TEFL training course
The 4 week 'in-country' intensive TEFL course in Beijing provides participants with
all the necessary skills and knowledge to work as a teacher intern. The course is
full-time (108 hours in total) and covers teaching methodology and teaching practice.
During this time, participants also receive a fantastic introduction to Chinese
culture and customs through group trips, activities and Mandarin lessons.
Part 2: Teaching placement
Having completed the first part of the TEFL course, participants apply their new
teaching skills during a five month placement in a Chinese school.
Positions exist in kindergarten, primary and secondary schools throughout China
and are allocated according the participants’ preferences and suitability. At the
end of the placement, teachers are awarded with their TEFL certificate and a reference
from their school.
Teachers take their own conversational English classes or assist local English teachers,
but there are also opportunities to get involved in after school activities.
During the programme teachers are paid a monthly allowance of 2000 RMB and a completion
bonus of 2500 RMB.
How long can I go for? Teach and Travel China is a 6 month programme,
including a 4 week TEFL course.
Working hours: 6 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Eligibility: British/Irish, 19+
A-level educated at minimum.
Excellent English language skills.
