Work & accommodation - on this visa you have the freedom to work and live anywhere in France and take almost any type of job.

Finding a job

Job possibilities in France will depend upon previous work experience and knowledge of French. A good command of French is required for all frontline speaking employment. Work in France participants generally take entry level jobs in tourism and hospitality, stores, restaurants, basic administration or clerical positions, or, if suitably qualified, perhaps teaching English as a second language. You can take any job, anywhere, except nanny, babysitting, domestic work or work in medicine.

The program is open to full-time US students during the summer vacation. This is a good time to find a job in Paris and there are also opportunities for seasonal employment in the Atlantic and Mediterranean towns and cities. Aquarius can help with job leads and information. When job hunting in France, participants need to be independent, flexible, open minded, adaptable and willing to take whatever is available. Aquarius can assist in the preparation of resumes and cover letters. Participants apply for the work permit once a definite job has been offered. This process will be covered at the arrival orientation in Paris. Orientations take place every Wednesday.

Accommodation

Most participants share accommodation with others on the program or stay in hostels. These are the cheapest accommodation options. More expensive, but also a great way to really experience French life is to take advantage of a home stay program. Various options are available including room only, bed and breakfast and half board (bed, breakfast and dinner). In Paris home stay costs range from 245 to 384 Euros per week.
