Travel to Britain

You have the flexibility to make your own travel arrangements and should find transatlantic flights surprisingly affordable.

To help you find the best fares, BUNAC has set up special arrangements for Work in Britain participants with specialist student travel companies. Call BUNAC on 1-800-462-8622 for further information. Please note that since arriving passengers from the Republic of Ireland do not go through Immigration, we advise that participants do not fly into the UK via Ireland.

Arrival

When you arrive in the UK, you must attend an orientation to get your Blue Card validated by BUNAC. You will then be able to start work. We recommend that you arrrive in the UK at least two to three business days before you are due to start work.

Insurance

The basic emergency insurance included with the Blue Card provides emergency medical evacuation and repatriation of remains coverage. However BUNAC strongly recommends that before flying to the UK all participants purchase medical and travel insurance to cover more routine medical situations.

Insurance for Work in Britain participants is available through BUNAC. Details of the BUNAC policy are available here. You can purchase this insurance either when you apply for the Blue Card by completing the Insurance Declaration to be found in the middle of this brochure, or later before you leave for the UK.

Studying in Britain

The Blue Card is intended for those entering Britain primarily to work. Although some incidental study is permitted, the main purpose of the visit should be to work.

You can enhance your overseas study experience by doing Work in Britain after a semester abroad. You can apply for your Blue Card via BUNAC in Connecticut during your semester abroad.
