Work Australia eligibility

The special 4-month ‘416’ visa is open to anyone who is a US citizen (holding a US passport) aged 18-30 inclusive. Applications from eligible applicants can be submitted from outside the USA, except from Australia.

To apply for the 12-month Work and Holiday visa you must be a US citizen aged 18-30 and currently enrolled on a post-secondary course of study or hold post secondary qualifications.

Please note that you can only participate once on the Work and Holiday visa so it is suggested that if you can only go to Australia for a short period of time, you take advantage of the ‘416’ visa and ‘save’ the Work and Holiday visa for later when you have longer to spend in Australia.

Returner option

BUNAC offers a returner program on the '416' visa for participants who have already worked in Australia either through BUNAC or on a similar work program. The application procedure remains the same but as a returner you have greater flexibility and freedom to plan your trip. Returners can arrive anywhere in Australia and do not need to attend an orientation. Please note we are unable to accept any other class of visa other than a 416 visa as proof of previous participation.

The program fee is reduced to $495 (plus mandatory travel insurance). This covers program administration in the US and Australia, the non-refundable visa fee, courier costs, program handbook and full access to the IEP Resource Centers for help and job hunting, accommodation, re-opening your bank account and all necessary help during your stay.

Please note that the Australian Government limits participation on the '416' visa to three times. It is not possible to obtain more than one Work and Holiday visa.
