Travel in New Zealand
New Zealand may be small, but there are great variations in scenery. Friendly cities
contrast with long, sandy beaches, rugged mountains and lush tropical and temperate
forests.
New Zealand is also a great place for adventure and extreme sports. Skiing, snowboarding,
surfing, bungy jumping, scuba diving, whitewater rafting, mountain biking and rock
climbing are as widely available as less rugged options such as hiking, camping
and horseback riding.
Traveling from place to place is easy via bus, plane, train or car. The cheapest
and most popular way to travel is by bus. Discount bus passes can be purchased before
or after arrival as can special air and rail bargains. IEP can give you information
about buying or leasing a car.
There is plenty of budget/backpacker accommodation throughout the country, both
through the Youth Hostel Association (YHA) and independent hostels. Hostels are
also great places to meet other people of all nationalities.
