Accommodation and Life in Ecuador

Where will I be living?

As you will be working in several locations in Ecuador, you will be living in a variety of different accommodation. These include:

Quito: Welcome to Ecuador. Your first few days will be spent in Quito in a clean and comfortable hostel in the city center. The hostel has all the amenities such as internet, laundry services, bars and restaurants.

Andes: You will be living in a welcoming home-stay. You will be sharing rooms with other volunteers which has modern facilities.

Jungle: You will be living right in the heart of the jungle living with the Tsachila tribe in traditional style thatched cabins. You will share with 4-12 other volunteers.

For those staying for the 10-week program:

Galapagos: The spectacular Galapagos discovered by Darwin is home to unique wildlife and fauna, and now you for four weeks. Accommodation is in a simple volunteer house at the Hacienda Tranquila. You will be responsible for some weekly chores.

Accommodation is generally in remote areas and you will be close to the projects you will be working on.

What will I eat?

You will eat locally produced food which will usually be rice or pasta based with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Meat will be either chicken or fish. Menus will be local, although Western tastes will be accommodated wherever possible. Vegetarians and other special dietary requirements are easily accommodated. Snacks can be bought in the local shops.

Who will I be working with?

You will be working with other volunteers aged between 18- 27 years old. The volunteer project can accommodate up to 24 volunteers per team, so you'll be sure to make plenty of new friends!
You will only be able to communicate in English to the team leader – the local communities only speak Spanish! You will be given Spanish classes for the first 2 weeks on arrival so you can get to grips with the basics.
