Eligibility

You can apply if you are:

• 18 years old by 1st June 2008

And

• A current full-time student at a UK or Irish university* on a degree level or HND course (or equivalent). The course must run for the complete 2007-2008 academic year. Final year students are eligible to apply.
  
  * The UK university must be an accredited university and registered with the DfES.

Students of any nationality can apply providing they meet the above requirements. If you are not a UK or EU passport holder then please download the Overseas Student Information Sheet from BUNAC. When the American embassy receive your application they will take into consideration a number of factors when considering whether to grant your visa. BUNAC’s information sheet provides useful information in regards to the visa process.

Gap year students, and those on professional courses such as ACCA are not eligible.  

Have you already taken part on Work America?

If you’ve had a J-1 visa before either through BUNAC or another organisation, you can apply to Work America for 2008 as a returner providing you’re still eligible and spaces are available. Returning participants can apply online.
