Volunteers are either met at Phoenix airport or at Flagstaff Amtrak station. The following morning they meet representatives of our American partners, ACE, for an orientation session. The orientation provides volunteers with essential information on the programme and health and safety while on the project. Volunteers are then driven into town in order to pick up supplies at camping shops and to get to know the local area.
As it is unlikely that all volunteers will have the same days off, there are no fixed excursions on this project. However, volunteers are free make their own travel arrangements together during their time off if they choose, and ACE will be happy to advise about travelling in the USA.
