Where will I be living?
While helping to conserve South Africa’s wildlife, BUNAC makes sure you have a comfortable base to stay at so that you can get the most of your great experience. All project bases are located onsite in beautiful vast reserves and you can stay either in a lodge, a well-equipped tent or in a chalet.
Johannesburg is accessible by car from all our project locations. You can climb to the top of Africa’s tallest building, visit the Nelson Mandela Family Museum or the Lesedi Cultural Village as well as the historic gold mines to mention just a few examples.
Type of accommodation: Lodges
Volunteers stay onsite in fully-equipped 2 bed apartments with en suite bathrooms and air-conditioning. There are also two swimming pools and a bar to enjoy and all meals are prepared for volunteers.
The lodge itself is situated on a beautiful sub-tropical woodland farm less than an hour’s drive away from Johannesburg and Pretoria.
Type of accommodation: Camping
Volunteers stay onsite in well equipped 2 bed tents with open air showers and western toilets. There is also a main building with a communal dining room and kitchen as well as a separate paying lodge. All meals are included but volunteers will help preparing food.
The camp is located on a beautiful ranch 450 km North of Pretoria and 6 hours from Johannesburg.

Type of accommodation: Chalets
Volunteers stay onsite on a beautiful vast reserve in fully-equipped thatched chalets which can accommodate up to 5 people. Each chalet has electricity, a bathroom with a flushing toilet and hot water shower. There's also a main dining area, lounge and swimming pool to refresh after work.
Volunteers must enjoy the great outdoors, as free time is likely to be spent on the reserve or in local villages and Johannesburg is 5 hours away. All meals are included but volunteers will help preparing food.
