Flights
It is a programme requirement that all first time participants travel on a BUNAC-arranged
flight to North America*. We will select your westbound flight date according to
the start date on your contract and the location of the camp. Westbound flights
are generally from London to New York. If your camp is situated a long way from
New York and in another part of America or Canada, you may possibly fly directly
to an airport closer to the camp.
You will probably travel on the same flight as other participants thus giving you
the opportunity to meet with fellow counsellors before you arrive in the US.
*Unless you are applying already holding a contract with an approved camp or soccer
company and have opted to be an Own Arranger.
The Summer Camp USA flight package also includes:
- Your first night’s accommodation*
- BUNAC support services in the UK and USA
- Informative orientation talk*
- T-shirt and phone card.
*May vary for those not arriving in New York.
Travel to your camp
On arrival in New York, you will be given route and ticket information for getting
to camp. There is a brief orientation meeting after breakfast the next morning and
then you are finally on the way to camp!
If you are not flying into New York, BUNAC staff in London will give you specific
information on how to get to camp before you go.
Flying home
All eastbound flights depart from New York to London and are usually overnight,
so you will arrive in the UK early the following morning. You must choose a return
date at the time you book your flight as it is a visa requirement that you enter
the US on a round trip ticket. However it is possible to change the date of your
homeward flight to another within our flight programme which runs until early October
for a small transfer fee. More information will be provided at the flight booking
stage.
Not returning to the UK?
If you not planning on returning to the UK at the end of the summer either because
you will be studying in North America (undergraduate/postgraduate level) and will
be transferring to a study visa OR you will be returning permanently to your own,
non-European country or continue to a non-European country as part of a pre-booked
round the world trip it may be possible for us to refund the unused eastbound portion
of your BUNAC flight ticket. Please contact our operations team at
operations@bunac.org.uk or call 020 7251 1152 for further details and an
application form.
Please note we are only able to consider a partial refund for the above specific
situations and you must have completed the refund application form before you leave
the UK.
