British Universities North America Club - Honorary Officer Elections 2009-2010
The British Universities North America Club (BUNAC) is a members' Club and, as such, members are represented at the highest levels. The Club membership annually elects three officers Honorary Chairperson, Honorary Treasurer and Honorary Secretary to represent them on BUNAC's General Council which is broadly equivalent to a board of governors.
Powers and Duties of the Officers:
- The Honorary Chairperson presides at all general meetings of the Club and all meetings of the National Advisory Committee at which he or she is present.
- The Honorary Secretary ensures that there is a written record of the Minutes of all such meetings.
- The Honorary Treasurer reports on the finances of the Club to the AGM.
Voting has now closed and the results of the BUNAC Club Officers for 2009-10 are as follows:
Honorary Chairperson
Peter Reid
During the last year, as Honorary Secretary of Bunac and member of the National Advisory Committee I have developed a more thorough understanding of the inner workings of Bunac. I believe that this will equip me well to undertake the role of Honorary Chairperson this year. In the future, I see Bunac taking on a larger part of the North American working holiday market, using its uniqueness among its rivals for placing students’ concerns first. I hope to see Platform2 grow in success and for it to contribute to Bunac’s recognition in offering invaluable travelling experiences to all young people. Since taking part on the Volunteer Cambodia programme, I have had an incredible time being a part of the Bunac club and will work with commitment and determination to protect the interests of Bunac’s members and to see its success in the year ahead.
Honorary Treasurer
Scott Fennell
Through my last two summers going to work in Summer Camps I have experienced many different organizations that promote work and travel experiences. Out of all of them BUNAC were the most helpful and cared about me whilst I was out having the most amazing time in the USA. This is the reason why I want to be an Honorary Officer so I can ensure that all is being done to make the experience I had available to every BUNAC member. I am currently a Student Marketing Coordinator for BUNAC at the University of Exeter where I am studying for a degree in Business and Management. I love my work and want to do so much more for BUNAC. I believe I can use the business knowledge that I have accumulated over the three years of my studies to understand the financial situation of BUNAC as the honorary treasurer.
Honorary Secretary
Matthew Carter
Who wouldn't want to be part of an organisation that facilitates life changing experiences?! That helps people experience new cultures? That helps broaden horizons? That helps people meet new friends? Having been a Summer Camper, I have seen firsthand the value that a BUNAC programme can provide. The chance to help BUNAC help YOU is something that I'm passionate about – something I’ve started as a Student Marketing Co-ordinator. I have started my third year at the University of Bath, where my educational and work-place experiences have allowed me to develop a wide range of skills, which could be useful – in particular, my six month internship at UBS, experiences working at BBC, as a Student Ambassador, and leading a Young Enterprise company. The future looks promising. With an ever widening array of programmes, BUNAC will continue to provide US with invaluable opportunities. Helping to shape the future is a commitment and challenge I would relish.
