BUNAC
2008 programme now closed.

Application info

KAMP USA is now closed for 2008. The programme re-opens in November. If you’re a full-time student looking to spend this summer in the USA, Work America is open until 23rd May.

  • STEP 1
Download the KAMP USA Application Form.
  • STEP 2
Send your completed KAMP USA Application Form to BUNAC with your registration fee of £141 and the £5 BUNAC membership fee, if you are not a current member.
  • STEP 3
BUNAC contacts you to go through your application. When you have provided acceptable references and been accepted on to the programme, your application is forwarded to BUNAC’s US office for placement. BUNAC notifies you when a placement has been found. Your outward flight date will be determined by your camp start date.
  • STEP 4
Once you have received a contract from camp and paid for your insurance, you will receive the J-1 visa application forms. Further instructions on obtaining the visa will be sent to you at the visa application stage.

For more detailed information on the application process, please see the KAMP USA Application Pack.

If you have ever been arrested, cautioned or convicted of any offence, please call BUNAC before making an application as this is likely to have implications at the visa processing stage.

Salaries and fees

KAMP USA is structured to make it as affordable as possible. It only costs £141 to apply plus £5 to join BUNAC, if you are not a current member. You don’t even have to pay for your transatlantic flight as BUNAC lends this cost to you along with other programme expenses. Your camp pays these costs back to BUNAC on your behalf once you complete your contract. This still leaves you with a guaranteed in-hand salary of $1350 to put towards your end of summer travels.

  • Registration fee £141
  • BUNAC membership £5
  • Insurance £133
  • US Embassy visa processing fee £55.

Guarantors

If you are accepted by BUNAC, you will need to provide the name of the guarantor; this is normally a parent or guardian. Your guarantor should be a permanent resident in the UK or Ireland and is required to protect the costs which BUNAC has incurred on your behalf before you arrive at camp.

If you don’t complete your contract and leave camp early, your guarantor is liable to pay BUNAC the costs which BUNAC has incurred on your behalf. This includes your airfare and any other costs which BUNAC would no longer be able to collect from camp.

You would only be paid for the days you have worked at camp. You or your guarantor would be liable for the pro-rated portion of this amount.
