Work Abroad Expert Becka has just got back from a trip to Hong Kong and couldn't wait to share all her holiday photos! She's managed to pick her top 5 things to see whilst in Hong Kong, whether it's a Group Flight on your way to Australia or New Zealand or a Professional Internship in this amazing city.
1. Victoria Peak
This is a must and the journey there is half the fun! You can get there by bus or tram and it’s up a huge hill which takes you outside of the city and up on to a nearly mountain. When you reach the precinct at the top there is a viewing platform which will give you a 360 degree panoramic view of the city. The most amazing thing about his excursion was not only being able to see the entire city from this viewpoint but if you look behind it’s just uninterrupted jungle- absolutely incredible!
2. Mong Kok
This region of Hong Kong is the most densely populated area of the city and boasts some interesting shopping and eateries. I felt Mong Kok was exactly how Hong Kong should be and although it was completely crazy but absolutely an experience not to be missed!
3. Lantau Island
There are a couple of things to do on this island- the biggest island making up Hong Kong. Going to visit the Big Buddha is a must- take the cable car over the jungle covered mountains and arrive at the little village at the top. It’s just a short walk up a few hundred steps until you see the temple at its summit sat on top of a beautiful temple. A slightly more wild excursion took my on a hike on Lantau island through the jungle and taking me to an infinity pool at the top, just as the sun was setting, it was one of the highlights of my trip!
4. Chi Lin Nunnery
This one’s really easy to get to if you have a spare hour or two to kill. If you take the MRT to Diamond Hill it’s about a 2 minute walk from there. The traditional Chinese garden is nestled what can be described as a spaghetti junction of highway. Despite the ‘concrete-jungle-like’ setting the garden is beautiful and peaceful- well worth a wander and marvelling at the quaint manicured garden amidst the skyscraper backdrop.
5. Ozone Bar
This can also be a fairly speedy excursion and one of those places that you can tick off the list. This is the highest bar in the world and is on top of the Ritz Carlton Hotel. It’s every bit as swanky as you’d expect and the views are phenomenal…particularly the view from the bathroom!
