Meet Ben our second Work America winner, he's super excited to get out to the States and experience everything that America has to offer. Check how he's found the first stage of our Work America package.
Holding a strong interest in America, having visited twice previously, I really wanted to spend a whole summer there after my final year of university, before I took the plunge into a Monday-Friday working lifestyle. It was after I made this decision that I stumbled upon BUNAC, and the competition they were offering. I entered without thinking really, and next thing I knew I received a phone call informing me that I was one of the 2 lucky winners, and that BUNAC would be setting me up with a job in America, with flights included! It was at this stage I had to compose my American resume (basically a small modification to a regular CV), and start getting in touch with potential employers. I was put in contact with all the potential employers by BUNAC.
After looking through all of the potential opportunities, I decided to apply for 3 jobs, all varying in location and experience. From these applications, I managed to secure two interviews, both of which were conducted through Skype. The interviews were what you would expect, and allowed me to get a taste of what I would be undertaking in both roles. From the interviews I was offered a job in Massachusetts, working for a grocery/café store. The employer takes on 10 students each year, and own a house in which all the international students live. I felt that the role suited my qualities, and it was exactly what I was looking for when I originally signed up, so I accepted.
Since then, I have been in regular contact with the employer, in confirming my flight details and when I will be arriving in Massachusetts. I have also just returned from London, where I had my visa appointment at the US Embassy. This was a straight forward process, where the support from BUNAC really helped. I fly on the 1st June, and I am extremely excited for the next 3-4 months.
