Think you have to miss out on summer festivals while doing Work America this year? Think again! We’ve picked out some of the biggest and best stateside festivals for you to combine with your work and travel adventure!
Bonnaroo – Manchester, Tennessee
Head down south in June for the four-day Bonnaroo festival in Tennesse. Attracting up to 80,000 music fans annually, this festival was named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the 50 moments that changed the history of Rock and Roll. Bring a tent (but leave your wellies in the UK) and pitch up in the 700-acre farmland where the festival is held. Previous acts have included Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Strokes, Metallica, Radio Head, and The Beach Boys!
Burning Man – Black Rock, Nevada
There’s more to Nevada than the shining lights and casinos of Las Vegas. The Black Rock desert is host to Burning Man at the end of August each year. This bizarre festival is more of a temporary city than an event, with up to 60,000 eccentric participants living in the desert for one week each year and then vanishing without a trace leaving the barren land exactly as they found it. The idea is that the attendees contribute to Burning Man in some way, either by making art, or giving performances such as belly dancing or fire eating!
Lollapalooza – Chicago, Illinois
This Windy City festival is held in Grant Park every August and features a variety of music acts, as well as other fun entertainment such as the Sony Electrolounge, and Red Bull Music Academy. Artists that have played at Lollapalooza include Coldplay, Muse, Lady Gaga, Rage Against the Machine, and Calvin Harris.
Electric Zoo – New York City, New York
Spend Labour Day weekend in the Big Apple, partying at Electric Zoo: an electro music festival featuring the world’s top DJs. Held in Randall’s Island Park, this event is a must for Ibiza-lovers and fans of dance music.
UFO Festival – Roswell, New Mexico
For something a little different this summer, unleash your inner geek at the UFO Festival! The event is held in Roswell, New Mexico: the supposed destination of a UFO crash! The wacky event features an alien costume contest, lectures on aliens and famous UFO cases, as well as laser shows and education space presentations at the nearby Robert. H. Goddard Planetarium.
