Pub Meet
Location: Dickens Inn, St Katherine’s Dock, E1
Date: Wednesday 31st March
The Dickens Inn was originally built as a brewery in the 18th century, & although Dickens did not frequent this pub, he knew its location by the docks well. This cosy 3-storey timber building with hanging baskets of flowers out front has a spectacular view across St. Katherine Docks, with Tower Bridge in the distance.
Directions: Exit the station & go down the steps as if heading towards the Tower of London. Go up the stairs to your left & follow the path so the Tower is on your right- the path will then curve around to the right. Cross over the main road, Tower Bridge Approach (bridge is on your right) & continue straight along East Smithfield. You will soon see a big gate on your right with elephants at the top - enter through the gate, walk straight on & follow the path through the clock tower building. You'll come out on the other side with the docks in front of you. You will see the pub across the water to your left - just cross over the footbridge. This might be a little tough to find, so bring your A-Z & ask people in the area for directions into the Docks!
