Pub Meet – The Angelic

Location: The Angelic, 57 Liverpool Road, N1
Date: Wednesday 8th February

Join us in one of trendiest pubs in this area of London with its friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The Angelic has a Heaven, Earth and Hell theme with classy decor and dungeon like toilets complete with comedy. You will find us in the upstairs bar area.

Directions: Exit tube station cross over Upper Street and head straight up Liverpool Road and The Angelic is on the corner of Liverpool Road and Tolpuddle Street, on your left.

Day Trip to Cotswolds

Location: Great Portland Street
Date: Saturday 18th February

Picture postcard England, Cotswolds is often described as one of the most beautiful areas of the land of the English. Unspoilt for hundreds of years and characterised by striking rolling hills and river valleys. This countryside is dotted with villages, hamlets, and small towns with buildings made from local, unique, honey-coloured stone. The day trip includes professional guide and return travel by comfortable coach, stopping at 4 famous Cotswold villages. The trip will cost £45 and the bus will leave PROMPTLY at 8.30am from ISH and will return at about 7pm.

Pub Meet – The White Hart

Location: The White Hart, Drury Lane, WC2B
Date: Wednesday 22nd February

This is reputedly the first licensed pub, being licensed in 1216. Old Bailey archives reveal The White Hart has a colourful and interesting past. It was known as a popular watering hole for London's notorious highwaymen and rogues. Condemned men used to stop by for a final drink and the comfort of a good (bad) woman before facing the hangman's noose.

Directions: Come out of the tube exit opposite the escalators and cross over the road and head down past Sainsbury’s. The road will split but keep to the left-hand side and Drury Lane will be on the left. The pub is just on the corner of Drury Lane.

Pub Meet – Dickens Inn

Location: Dickens Inn, St Katherine’s Dock, E1
Date: Wednesday 7th March

The Dickens Inn was originally built as a brewery in the 18th century, & although Dickens did not frequent this pub, he knew its location by the docks well. This cosy 3-storey timber building with hanging baskets of flowers out front has a spectacular view across St. Katherine Docks, with Tower Bridge in the distance.

Directions: Exit the station & go down the steps as if heading towards the Tower of London. Go up the stairs to your left & follow the path so the Tower is on your right- the path will then curve around to the right. Cross over the main road, Tower Bridge Approach (bridge is on your right) & continue straight along East Smithfield. You will soon see a big gate on your right with elephants at the top - enter through the gate, walk straight on & follow the path through the clock tower building. You'll come out on the other side with the docks in front of you. You will see the pub across the water to your left - just cross over the footbridge. This might be a little tough to find, so bring your A-Z & ask people in the area for directions into the Docks!

Pub Quiz – International Students House Bar

Join us at the ISH bar quiz to test your knowledge against some of your fellow BUNACers and BUNAC staff! The Brits love a pub quiz and this is your chance to get involved in a great British tradition. The prize for the winners is usually vouchers to use at the ISH bar but they may have a themed quiz and a prize to match. The quiz starts at 6.30pm and entry is free. Please book with BUNAC in advance so we can reserve tables.

Pub Meet - The Crown Tavern

Location: The Crown Tavern, 43 Clerkenwell Green, EC1R
Date: Wednesday 21st March

The Crown Tavern is a unique Victorian pub just minutes from the BUNAC office. Once used as a theatre this pub still holds much of its original charm with a modern edge. If the weather is nice your will find us soaking up the atmosphere out the front of the pub or in the back bar area.

Directions: Come out of the tube station and turn left. The street immediately on the left is Turnmill Street, walk along there and turn right onto Clerkenwell road. Cross over the road and immediately on the left you will see Clerkenwell Green. The pub is just up there on the left.

Pub Meet – The Earl of Lonsdale

Location: The Earl of Lonsdale, 277-281 Westbourne Grove, W11
Date: Wednesday 4th April

Nowadays, when most pubs get around to doing a refit, you know the "stripped-out" look isn't far away but with this chain of pubs they have tried something very different! Having found the original Victorian plans, they've turned back the clock in the Earl of Lonsdale. Now, where the large open bar used to be is a succession of snug compartments, with tiny interconnecting gates. This is a unique pub right in the heart of trendy Notting Hill.

Directions: Take the north exit out of the tube station and take a right down Pembridge Road. Follow the road round to the right and take the first left onto the famous Portobello Road. Follow the road down and the pub is located on the right hand side.

Easter 4 day trip to Amsterdam

Location: Amsterdam
Date: Friday 6th April – Monday 9th April

From London we take the ferry across the English Channel and stop in Brussels for lunch on the way. Arriving in Amsterdam early evening, a guided tour will be provided. You will have plenty of free time to explore the nightlife, the famous café culture & the fabulous museums of this interesting city. There will also be a canal cruise and a trip to a clog and cheese factory as well as visiting the beautiful town of Zaanse Schanse. Returning we will go via the wonderful city of Bruges! An optional trip to Keukenhoff to see the tulip fields will be available and this can be booked whilst on the trip (cost £29). The trip includes travel, hostel accommodation with breakfast, a canal cruise, your own free time in Amsterdam, Bruges and Brussels, a trip to the clog and cheese factory, a trip to Zaanse Schanse and a tour guide! Priced £279 the trip will depart from International Students House at 6.05am on Friday & returns Monday night around 9pm.

Pub Meet – The Old Queens Head

Location: The Old Queens Head, 44 Essex Road, N1
Date: Wednesday 18th April

The Old Queen's Head has stood proud in its spot on the Essex Road for centuries. In its current incarnation the pub plays host to world class bands and DJs, however in its long history it's rumoured to have been owned by none other than Sir Walter Raleigh. Some sources say that he may well have lived at the pub. This is a trendy pub in Islington well known for its live music and vibrant atmosphere. Full of character with a very quirky interior and comfy sofas. You will find us in the reserved area to the right of the entrance.

Directions: Come out of Angel tube station & turn right. Walk up Upper Street (the main street) until it meets Essex Road on the right (past Pizza Express). The pub is about a five minute walk up Essex Road on the right. The 73, 341 & 38 buses stop right outside.

Pub Meet –Walkers of Whitehall

Location: Walkers of Whitehall, 15 Craig's Court, SW1
Date: Wednesday 2nd May

This pub is located in the heart of London, next to Trafalgar Square and Whitehall. Like most buildings in London, Walkers of Whitehall didn't start its life as licensed premises. Built in 1694, it was originally an Irish bank with cashiers upstairs and the offices and vaults below. Since then is has taken on several transformations and is now a family owned pub offering homemade British cuisine, real ales and fine wines.

Directions: Come out of the station and head down Whitehall, turn left down Craig’s Court and the pub will be on your left down the alleyway.
